People are quitting their jobs to queue up for £49 return flights to Thailand

People are quitting their jobs to queue up for £49 return flights to Thailand

This queue/campsite that has been set up near London Victoria station is actually for people waiting for £49 return tickets to Thailand. A flash sale started at 9am today at two branches of STA Travel – in Grosvenor Gardens, London, and Corporation Street in Birmingham.

People queued for 33 hours in tents to get the tickets – and some even quit their jobs to reserve a space. Mollie Merrifield, 18, and her 19-year-old boyfriend Dan Jeffs were working at McDonald’s and Dominoes before they heard about the sale.

‘We both quit our jobs to come here today, because otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to make it on time,’ Mollie said yesterday.

‘They just didn’t reply. We tried to explain.’

‘About half an hour after I came, a couple more came, and then it slowly started building up over the day,’ he said. ‘People are going around socialising. It’s very friendly.

‘The police wished us luck and said we were not being any problem.’

If you missed out on the first round of cheap tickets, STA said they are releasing another 49 return tickets at £299 each tomorrow. It’s probably not the best idea to quit your job, though.
